Malaysia pass first qualifying test with flying colours

THE national futsal team started their campaign in the AFC Futsal Championships Qualifiers on a winning note when they defeated the Phillipines 4-1 in a Group B match in Jakarta yesterday.
Malaysia's goals were scored by Safar Mohamad (14th minute), Khairul Effendy (29th), Addie Azwan Zainal (31st) and Khairul Rizuan (33rd).

Zerrudo Ariel Andayu replied for the Philippines in the 38th minute.

Team manager Datuk Hamidin Amin said his players played at half pace after taking a 4-0 lead.

"We did not want them to push themselves hard as they have another match tomorrow (today) against Cambodia. Overall, the players did very well," said Hamidin when contacted in Jakarta yesterday.

In Group A, Australia thrashed Myanmar 6-1.
