UpNorthLive.comSoccer benefit helps Haiti recoveryBy
Bill FroehlichSaturday, February 27, 2010Sunday's "Futsal" benefit is sponsored by the Grand Traverse Soccer League.
Futsal is a scaled-down version of soccer that's played indoors. Teams of five players each will go head-to-head for three games each and will fight for bragging rights. Futsal is played in 100 countries around the world, which is one reason organizers thought it would be a great way to support relief efforts in Haiti.
The Futsal Tournament for Haiti takes to the gym floor Sunday morning starting at 9 am. Proceeds go to the American Red Cross. It's an all-day event at Norris Elementary School, which is at M-22 and Cherry Bend Road just outside of Traverse City. It's $20 dollars per player, and you are welcome to come with a team or just show up and join another group when you get there.
We'll have more on the benefit Sunday night on 7 & 4 News. For more information go to www.gtsoccerleague.org
