THE FAI Futsal Cup is down to the quarter-final stage after another exciting weekend of action at the BRL Umbro Arena in Ballymun and Gormanston College.

There were heavy victories for FAS South over Athlone Town, Shamrock Rovers over the Ulster Senior League, the Roscommon League over Finn Harps and most surprisingly the AUL over Salthill Devon.

Salthill Devon were impressive quarter-finalists last year and topped their group in Connacht but the found Irish futsal international Tony Kane in unstoppable mood as the AUL ran out 6-0 winners.

Shamrock Rovers went 1-0 up within 20 seconds through Badr Bouznig but took until the second half before they added a second. Brendan Dawson, Ian Byrne and Bouznig each ended up with doubles with Braulio Rangel grabbing the seventh and the impressive Laurence Toland responding for Ulster.

Roscommon were emphatic winners by the same 7-1 scoreline over Finn Harps with Sylwester Bodziony bagging a hat-trick and Pawel Szymeczko a double.

Aidan McCann grabbed a treble for FAS South in their 9-4 win over Athlone Town while Bartosi Paskiewicz was also a hat-trick hero as Blue Magic beat Dunmanway Town 7-1.

Holders Cork City and Corrib Rangers have yet to play their last 16 game but this is expected to take place in midweek ahead of this weekend's two-day last eight deciders.

Should the Leesiders beat Corrib they will meet FAS South in the quarter-finals and the winner of that tie will meet the winners of the Roscommon League v Blue Magic quarter-final in the last four.

The other quarter-finals see Sporting Fingal/EID face the AUL and Shamrock Rovers meeting Bray/St Joseph's in a repeat of last year's Emerald Futsal League final. The two quarter-final winners will meet in the semi-finals.
