THORNABY TO HOST BUCS

2 March 2010

The BUCS playoffs, in which Teesside University are fighting for a place in the BUCS Futsal Finals will be held at Thornaby Pavilion on 7th March from 9am until 4pm.

This comes after the event was called off due to the adverse weather last week and, with only a couple of weeks until the finals, Boro have stepped in and offered to host the event, which could see eight of the Boro squad help Teesside to qualify for the national university futsal finals.

Teesside are struggling in the group stage, which has been down to the very small pitches in York somewhat but captain Jason Kilbride is over the moon that the decisive games will be played on a larger pitch, and a familiar one at that.

"We were brought down to the level of other teams playing on the small pitches in York," Kilbride said, "It's anybody's game and futsal doesn't necessarily come out on top when it should. We lost three games that we know we could have won and would have done on a bigger pitch. We're confident we'll qualify now, whoever we play."

Teesside University won the British University championship in 2007 and are hoping to challenge once again this year against the likes of Loughborough University, Team Bath and Hartpury College, who are all national league teams.

You can watch Teesside in their pursuit to qualify for the BUCS Futsal Finals at Thornaby Pavilion from 9am on Sunday 7th March.
