DOHA: The second season of Qatar Women’s Sport Open Indoor Football Tournament, sponsored by Commercialbank, kicks off at the Aspire Zone tomorrow.

The 14-team tournament for women will see Qatar’s top clubs participating. The tournament will be played over four weeks with the final scheduled for March 26.

The tournament is being organised by Qatar Women’s Sport Committee (QWSC).

QWSC’s President Ahlam Salem Al Manaa and Commercialbank’s Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Abdulla S Al Raisi, signed the sponsorship agreement for the tournament yesterday.

“We are very thankful to Commercialbank for their support to women’s sports. This is a good step from Commercialbank to sponsor our event,” Al Manaa said.

Commercialbank’s Al Raisi said: “We are very happy to sponsor this event. We have to encourage women sports in this country. There is a lot of potential.”

Qatar Sports Club, Al Sadd, Al Rayyan (two teams), Al Gharafa, Al Arabi, Al Ahli, Police, Qatar Education Complex, American Academy, Barcelona Club, O2 and Al Rahib will vie for top honours over four weeks.

The matches will be played from Thursday to Saturday every week.

Earlier, QWFC, in cooperation with Qatar Football Association, conducted the second futsal referees course for its candidates at women club in Aspire Dome.

The three–day course featured the participation of 35 trainees, including referees, administrator and coaches.

According to QWSC officials, the course comes in the light of the committee’s arrangements to host the Qatar Women’s Sport Open Indoor Football Tournament.
