Wauchope GazetteBrazilian dream for Lewisby
James Gallagher04 Mar, 2010YOUNG Jack Lewis will need to read up on his Portuguese as he gets set to head to Brazil as part of the under 15s Australian Vikings Futsal team who will tour the country in May this year.
Continuing Wauchope's strong representation in the sport - he's the third local to be selected in the squad - Lewis will take on a host of teams from Brazil including national representative squads.
Over there Futsal is huge and Lewis is looking forward to the once-in-a-lifetime trip.
"I can't wait to get over there," the fifteen-year-old said.
"It's like a national sport in Brazil and South America so the skill level will be very high.
"I'm really looking forward to the culture shock over there as well."
But before he gets there he needs a helping hand to cover the costs.
The cost is $6500 for Jack to participate and his dedication to his sport and hectic training schedule won't get him over there alone.
That's why the Wauchope Netball Club and Lewis family are asking the community for support.
The Wauchope Netball Club have plans for a trivia night, bowls day, raffles and more to help Jack realise his dream.
Kicking off the fundraising efforts will be a trivia night held on April 24 at the Wauchope Showground Hall at 6pm.
There will be a carvery dinner and plenty of raffles and prizes with all proceeds raised going to support Jack Lewis get to Brazil.
Any contributions or donations to be used for raffles, trivia nights would be greatly appreciated.
For more information or to donate any goods for auctions and raffles or business sponsorship contact Donna Lewis on 0417 042 676 or Kim Thompson on 0408 861 898.
