News Durham RegionTurul girls get a kick out of futsalMar 08, 2010OSHAWA -- The Oshawa Turul '92 girls traveled to compete in the Toronto International Soccer Show Futsal Tournament, reaching the final before coming up a bit short.
Having not played futsal since winning the Ontario Futsal Cup in 2008, the Oshawa team had to learn on the run but did so very quickly, winning four out of the five games they played.
The Oshawa girls were beaten by Russell Raiders of Ottawa 3-2 in the final.
"We were playing against teams who play weekly and Russell went to the nationals two years ago and we had not played futsal in two years and some of the new members had never played futsal," coach John Brown said in a press release. "All in all, it was a great showing by our girls and also the Durham Futsal Academy who were just put together two weeks ago."
Futsal is one of the fasting growing indoor soccer sports in the world and the Durham Regional Soccer Association is one of leading groups in promoting this fast-paced sport.
