Cyprus MailFutsal tournamentMarch 16, 2010POLITICIANS, members of the police force and journalists will take part tomorrow in a charity futsal tournament aimed at highlighting the beautiful game.
Under the catchy slogan “Scoring against violence,” the mini-tournament will take place at the “Daluz” futsal grounds in Nicosia, starting at 3pm.
On sale at the tournament will be replicas of kits of First Division football clubs. Proceeds from the sales will be donated to the “Make a Wish” association for children with cancer.
Among others, the roster includes government spokesman Stefanos Stefanou, the spokesmen of political parties, of the police, the Fire Department, the National Guard, and journalists.
Police spokesman Michalis Katsounotos and DIKO spokesman Fotis Fotiou both confirmed they would be strapping their football boots; DISY spokesman Harris Georgiades said he was not 100 per cent match-fit and had given his spot to the party’s alternate spokesman Christoforos Fokaides.
The idea is to pit party spokesmen against political reporters, while police and Fire Department spokesmen will likely take on a team of reporters covering the crime beat – a potentially volatile contest.
Here’s hoping things don’t get out of hand.
