Famous futsal player Konstantin Eremenko dies

MOSCOW, March 19 (Itar-Tass) -- A famous futsal player and a senator of the Federation Council from the Voronezh region, Konstantin Eremenko died of a suspected heart attack at the age of 39 years in Moscow, a source in the upper house of Russian parliament told Itar-Tass on Friday.

According to the source, Eremenko died on Thursday evening. He was playing football traditionally on Thursdays at the small sports arena of the Dynamo Stadium “to keep in shape,” as Eremenko admitted. Unexpectedly he was feeling bad, an ambulance arrived 17 minutes later and brought to the footballer to the Botkin Hospital, where he died.

Eremenko, has been the captain of the Moscow futsal club Dina, a forward of the Russian national futsal team and was named the best futsal player in the twentieth century.

His colleague and a member of the Federation Council Committee for Physical Culture, Sports and the Development of the Olympic Movement Aslambek Aslakhanov told Itar-Tass that all colleagues of Eremenko “are shocked at his unexpected death.” No one could imagine such a tragic death of Eremenko, who was keeping in a good shape, had the optimistic attitude in the life, did not used to complain.

“He was a intelligent man, a good specialist, who was distinguished in his work as a senator, he enjoyed authority among his colleagues and had friendly relations with them,” the senator said, adding that Eremenko was a perfect personality and the head of the family.

According to the preliminary reports, the funeral of Konstantin Eremenko will be held on Sunday, March 21.

Konstantin Eremenko was the bronze medallist of the Futsal World Cup in 1996 and the European champion in 1999. He won the silver medal at the UEFA Futsal European Championship in 1996 and the bronze medal at the Futsal European Championship in 2001. He was the CIS champion in 1992. He was the eight-time Russian futsal champion (1993-2000). He won the Soviet Union Futsal Cup in 1990. He is the seven-time winner of the Russian Futsal Cup (1992, 1993, 1995-1999). He is the three-time winner of the UEFA Futsal Cup (1995, 1997 and 1997). Eremenko won the FIFA Intercontinental Futsal Cup in 1997.

Legendary futsal player and senator of the Federation Council from the Voronezh region, Konstantin Eremenko, has died of a suspected heart attack at the age of 39 in Moscow.

Eremenko was playing futsal on Thursday, as he regularly did once a week “to keep in shape”, when he unexpectedly felt unwell. An ambulance arrived 17 minutes later and brought the footballer to Moscow’s Botkin Hospital, where he died.
