Warwick Daily NewsWarwick High wins futsal 24th March 2010FIVE Warwick State High School teams travelled to Brisbane earlier this month to compete in the south-east Queensland Futsal Championships.
This is the largest tournament in Queensland and is run over a two-week period.
After 13 days of round games, the top-two teams from each day returned last Friday for the knockout finals competition.
The Warwick High 14 years girl’s team qualified for the finals after going through the qualifying rounds undefeated. A first-round loss at the finals ended the title dreams for the girls.
Our U19 boys have also qualified after defeating Cavendish Road State High School which is one of the top futsal and soccer schools in the state. The boys came from 3-0 behind to win their game 5-3 after out-playing Cavendish Road in the second half.
The boys made the top eight but were eliminated in their next game.
In school sport yesterday, it was the battle of the high schools in A-grade Broncos Cup rugby league at Eastern Suburbs Oval.
Warwick State High School won 22-12 but it was the team from Stanthorpe which finished the stronger and scored the last try of the game.
There was more success for Warwick High students at the Darling Downs Secondary School Swimming Championships when Ben Batten, Josh Day and Shenee Coleman were selected in the regional team to contest the state titles at Chandler on April 2-4.
