Summer deciders

NORTHERN NSW coach George Poulos was the special guest at the grand finals of the Manning futsal competition held at Saxby's Stadium.

He also spoke to players regarding the new futsal academy being launched in the upcoming school holidays.

Proceedings started at 4pm with the 10 years grand final where competition leaders Super Stars displayed their dominance to convincingly defeat the Invincibles 10-0.

The Green Extreme Fluffy Ducks caused an upset in the 12 years defeating Garry Addison Builders, the No 1 team going into the final series. However this was a close and tight encounter with the final score 4-3.

Another nail biter followed to reinforce Strikers dominance in the competition, however Manchester Minis surprised the Strikers with their tenacity being defeated by only one goal. The final score was 6-5.

At 6pm the Eagles and The Barbz played for the B Division title. Eagles outplayed the Barbz with their sheer experience over this young up and coming team. Full credit to the Barbz who are a team to watch in the future. Eagles won 7-3.

Sockeys who have contested the last couple of grand finals finally came away with the trophy defeating the competition leaders, the Eagles. The game could have gone either way with scores locked at 3-3 in the second half, but the cool, calm and experience of Sockeys prevailed to win the match 5-3.

The climax of the night was the clash between Club Taree Wildcats and Bar Bar Blue Sheep. Always entertaining, these old rivals did not disappoint. The game was fast and most entertaining for spectators. Although Taree defeated the Old Bar boys by three goals, this did not indicate the intensity of this contest. The final score was 8-5.

The men's winter competitions start on Wednesday March 31 and the 12 /13 years on Thursday.
