Futsal team in World Record attempt

On Friday, April 30, the Irish Blind Sports futsal team will take on the Shamrock Rovers futsal side in a game that will last for 40 hours. Starting at 7.00pm on the Friday, the two squads will keep playing until noon the following Sunday, May 2.

This marathon game is a fund-raiser for the Irish Blind Sports organisation, who provide partially sighted Irish people with a chance to participate in competitive sport, both domestically and on the international scene.

The Irish Blind Sports futsal team has proudly represented Ireland at the International Blind Sports Federation European Championships in recent years and famously beat England at this level last year. Futsal is the FIFA-approved version of 5-a-side football.

An enormous amount of planning and preparation has gone into this World Record attempt. The Irish Blind Sports and Shamrock Rovers futsal game will take place at the BRL Umbro Arena, Trinity Comprehensive, Ballymun. A number of media groups will be covering the event.

The record stands at 32 hours 20 minutes, and was achieved at the gym of Centro de Educação Integrada School in Natal, Brazil, on August 22-23, 2009.

To help achieve their targets, the Irish Blind Sports association needs any support your business or organisation can provide. Please feel free to contact any of the names listed below if you have a contribution to make.

Gerard Prendergast, Irish Blind Sports Futsal team captain: 085-2721770
