Former Imp Jack Hobbs supports new Futsal event

Saturday, March 27, 2010

Football fanatics who believe they have Samba in their soles are being invited to take part in a Futsal tournament in aid of Sports Relief.

The "Essence trophy" will be held on Sunday, April 11 at North Kesteven Sports Centre, who have donated their hall for free due to all proceeds going to charity.

The tournament has been backed by former Lincoln City youth star Jack Hobbs, who is currently chasing promotion to the Premier League with Leicester City.

The competition is set to become a yearly event with the trophy set to be named after former Lincoln manager Keith Alexander, who died on March 3, aged 53.

"I'm really looking forward to attending the Futsal Tournament," he said.
"It's for a wonderful charity and I love the idea that next year's event will be in the memory of Keith, who did so much for my career."
Futsal is basically five-a-side and it roots lie in Brazil having been played on the streets of Sao Paulo.
But, in the last few years, it has become incredibly popular because of its tempo and the skill that is often seen from the players.
The rules create an emphasis on improvisation, creativity and technique as well as ball control and passing in small spaces.
Hobbs will be there on the day to hand out trophies to the winners. Lincoln have also donated prizes of match tickets to their game against Bury on April 24 and the opportunity for the winning team to have a picture taken with a player, who will also be present at the event.

The competition, sponsored by Essence Lifestyle Management, teams of eight players. To enter a team costs £40. The contact number to register is 07856 537226 or email register@futsalmania.co.uk.
Meanwhile, the organisers are asking local businesses to donate auction prizes. To donate a prize, contact the above number and for more details see www.futsalmania.co.uk
