FAILangtry confident ahead of Norwegian encounterFriday, 26 March 2010The Republic of Ireland Futsal Team will play their Norwegian counterparts on Tuesday and Wednesday, March 30 and 31 in the National Basketball Arena in Tallaght (both KOs at 8pm) and Captain Mark Langtry is looking forward to getting another win for the boys in green.
This is the Norwegian Futsal Team's first international friendly and Langtry has called for discipline and organisation amongst the Irish setup.
Langtry admitted, "We do not know much about the Norwegians. We do know they have a very strong league setup there so we can expect an organised and experienced team. We are just going to focus on our own performance and play to a standard we can be happy with."
Langtry believes that while the Norwegians may be somewhat of an unknown quantity, a determined and unified Irish team can emerge victorious. "We have shown in the past against much more experienced professional teams than ourselves that we can challenge and Norway will be no different. We are preparing well for the games and we will be up to the challenge and have the belief we can come out on top."
Irish Manager Derek O'Neill is looking forward to the stern test he believes the Norwegian side will offer. He has talent in the ranks of his Irish team that he believes have the skill and talent to win any match when it counts. "Players such as Ian Byrne, Tony Kane and Alan Lynch are capable of producing magical moments in Futsal matches which get you on the edge of your seat. However, all of the players are technically good because if you're not, you won't survive in Futsal"
O'Neill urges all to attend the matches next Tuesday and Wednesday and he promises fans will not be disappointed. "I'd like to ask anyone who is curious about the game to come along and finally see what it's all about. If you like fast, skilful, end to end football with plenty of skilful players on show, Futsal will grab your attention immediately. It's very hard to get bored at a Futsal game, something is happening every few seconds and build ups and transitions in play are really fast. I guarantee they won't be disappointed by what they see!"
