Channel News AsiaFutsal Association plans to get more students interested in the sportBy
Patwant Singh10 April 2010SINGAPORE: There are plans afoot to lift Singapore football to a higher level and the mini version of the sport, futsal also has big plans.
The recently set-up Futsal Association wants to reach out to more youths by bringing the sport to schools.
Yew Tee Primary in Singapore has the honour of being the first to adopt the sport.
The lack of space for a proper football field could have influenced the school's decision to have its students take up the sport.
44 of them took to the game like fish to water.
Ronnie Lee, president, Futsal Association, said: "We are looking at close to 300 kids to do the programme by the end of the year. As for the association itself, we plan to have inter-school competition from the primary school itself probably from 2011 onwards."
