Solomon Star NewsFutsal train-on squad namedTuesday, 13 April 2010THE names of players selected for the Solomon Islands National Futsal Training Squad have been released.
A total of 12 additional players were selected from the Our Telekom National Futsal Championship which concluded on Saturday April 3.
According to the National Futsal Team Selection Panel the 12 players were selected to supplement the existing squad which has 14 players. More than 49 players were originally selected which had to downsized to only the top 12 that would eventually be selected into the National Futsal Trainig Squad.
After a meeting held on Monday 5th April, 2010 the panel made the final considerations to come up with the final 12 players.
Speaking on behalf of the National Futsal Team Selection Panel, Noel Wagapu, said the panel is satisfied that the best players possible have been selected by the panel.
“Our work covered the competition pool matches and the finals and we feel that we have come up with the best crop to add to the existing squad,” Wagapu said.
No province based players are included in the final list. However, the panel expressed that from what was seen there are quality players in the provinces and also the potential for improvement. At this stage, however, Honiara based players benefit from organized competitions and facilities and were able to excel beyond their provincial counterparts.
Members of the new National Futsal Training Squad are called to attend their first meeting at the Multipurpose Hall on Wednesday 14th April, 2010. The meeting will start at 2:00pm and all players named in the squad are urged to attend.
The meeting will be used to brief the players on the training program that the team will follow to prepare for the Oceania Football Confederation Futsal Championship in June of this year.
