Tempo InteractiveIndonesia Wins AFF Futsal ChampionshipTuesday, 13 April, 2010Unlike the national soccer team, the Indonesian national futsal (indoor soccer) team is quite strong in Southeast Asia. In the 2010 AFF Futsal Championship held inside the Thu Po Stadium in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, Indonesia won the title after beating Malaysia 5-0 at the finals on Sunday.
In a press release sent to Tempo, Indonesia’s goals were kicked by Jaelani Ladjanibi at the ninth minute, Vennard Hutabarat (23), Deny Handoyo (26), Socrates Matulesy (36), and Ali Haidar (37).
Indonesia played against Malaysia at the finals after they became the top two teams out of the five participants in the championship. “This is a present for the PSSI’s (All Indonesia Football Federation) 80th anniversary,” said Vennard, the Indonesian national futsal team captain.
In the AFF Championship which began on April 5, Indonesia never lost a match, including the two times when the team defeated Malaysia (Indonesia won 6-0 over Malaysia during the elimination round). Vennard and his team defeated Burma 7-4, the host by 2-1, and the Philippines 4-0.
The Indonesian Futsal Committee chief, Ferry Paulus said the victory win will be a big asset for the team when they prepare for the 2010 Asia Cup to be held in Uzbekistan next month.
