The Northern StarPlenty of local futsal talent15th April 2010THERE is plenty of futsal talent on the Northern Rivers.
Last weekend, a representative squad from Far Northern NSW Futsal travelled to Brisbane and the Gold Coast to contest the Pacific junior regional titles.
Twelve teams made up of players from clubs in Goonellabah, Lismore PCYC, Yamba and Grafton contested the tournament with FNNSW Futsal bringing home the overall bronze medal.
The under-17 girls were the only FNNSW team to win their division but there were a handful of other handy results.
The under-14 girls and under-16 boys went down in grand finals while the under-13 and under-15 boys’ runs came to an end in the semis.
Special mention goes to the under-14 girls who played the final with just six players after Chelsea Mangan broke her wrist in their semi-final win over Central Queensland.
The bronze medal – FNNSW Futsal’s best ever result – was awarded to the entire squad after combining results across all divisions.
