The AFC.comJapan set up futsal friendlies with RussiaTuesday, 20 April 2010Tokyo: Japan have stepped up their preparations for the AFC Futsal Championship by announcing two friendlies with Russia next month.
Miguel Rodrigo’s charges will first meet the world’s fourth ranked team on May 12 at the National Yoyogi Gymnasium in Tokyo and both the teams will play again three days later at Kobe’s Green Arena.
Japan recently had a short training camp in Spain and coach Rodrigo will have a chance to select players for Asia’s premier futsal tournament in a four-day camp in Shizuoka starting today.
Japan lost to Russia 9-1 in the 2008 FIFA Futsal World Cup in Brasile in the first round group stage.
Japan are aiming to regain the Asian futsal crown, which they won in 2006, in Tashkent where the AFC Futsal Championship will be played from May 23 to 30.
