Ragomo back to join futsal team

Thursday, 22 April 2010

National futsal captain and award ambassador Elliot Ragomo is back in the country to join the futsal training squad in preparation for the Oceania Football Confederation championship in June this year.

Ragomo returned on Monday after a short stint with the New South Wales Thunders for the last three months.

He also featured for the team in the Asian Futsal Club Championship held in Iran this year.

Ragomo told star sports that the championship in Iran had given him more insight to the game and he enjoyed every bit of the competition.

“It was fun and I enjoyed it”, he said.

The national futsal captain explained that he actually returned home for holiday as well as to meet up with the squad until he returns sometimes in July.

But he said his priorities while on holiday were to be with the team and train with them for the upcoming OFC championship.

“Although I am away on international duties my focus is still with the team and I’m confident that we will defend our title again”, he said.

Ragomo said during his stint with NSW he had the lifetime privilege to go as far as Iran which helped developed him individually.

Another Solomon Islander Jack Whetney is also on holiday but chose to remain in Australia.

The experiences of the duo are expected to boost the strength of our Futsal team as they prepare to defend their title.

A total of 26 futsal players are currently undergoing training for a place in the national squad.
