Bayside Eagles cemented their spot at the top of Queensland Winter Futsal League alongside Gold Coast Tigers defeating a very enthusiastic Beenleigh at the Beenleigh Arena on Friday night.

With the scores level one a piece at half time with goals from Jackson Dixon-Best (Beenleigh) and Eagles player Kevin Hoare the match turned physical in the second half as the tempo to keep each teams undefeated record in tact unfolded.

Both teams fought hard to keep possession ensuring an entertaining match for the fans in a grinding but fair encounter.

Bayside Eagles jumped away after half time to a 3-1 early lead when Justin Morrison and Jamie Haines found the back of the net.

Beenleigh then launched multiple counter attacks with long plays to Bayside’s danger zone which finally paid off with three minutes to go in the match leaving them one goal short 2-3.

As Beenleigh pressed in the last three minutes trying to find the equalizer, a late goal to the competitions leading goal scorer Greg Stekiewicz in the final minutes of the game sealed the win for Bayside Eagles.

After the match Bayside’s key playmaker Justin Morrison, said “ I was very please with the effort of the boys tonight in withstanding the late charge from Beenleigh.”

“Obviously they are one of the top sides in the competition and we are very happy to come away with the points tonight”

“We’ll now turn our attention to playing third place Sunshine Coast Waves in a fortnights time one game at a time”

The next round of the Queensland Winter Futsal League will be played on Friday May 7th at the Beenleigh Arena.
