Bianca Martins CANTERBURY’S Michael Cimino is kicking goals for NSW and his recent success has made him one of the area’s most promising soccer stars.
The 15-year-old took to the field for the under-16 Boys FFA Futsal National Championships in Canberra in January and led his team, NSW Lightning, to a 4-2 victory in the grand final after scoring two thrilling goals.
He was crowned the most valuable player of the match, an accolade he will always cherish.
“It was really good. I was really proud of myself because I was selected as a NSW rep,” he said.
“I put a lot of hard work into my soccer. I train everyday with my club, West Sydney Berries, so it’s very rewarding for me.”
Michael began playing soccer for the Earlwood Wanderers when he was eight.
From 13, he spent two years receiving private training sessions from former AC Milan player Andrea Icardi.
“That was a great experience,” he said.
“He taught me how to work with the ball, how to pass it properly, how to kick goals and all the skills needed to become successful.
“I really took on board everything he taught me and I use it in every game.”
The centre-back plays for the West Sydney Berries’ under-16 and under-18 teams. He said his long-term goal was to play A-league, alongside Shannon Cole for Sydney FC.
“I also want to go overseas and play soccer. That’s my dream,” Michael said.
