Great Lakes AdvocateFutsal to kick off in Forster19 May, 2010WHAT do you get when you combine Australia’s fastest growing sport with the most played sport in the world? The answer – the 2010 Futsal World Cup Challenge in Forster.
In conjunction with the upcoming 2010 FIFA World Cup the Futsal comp will run in the same format as the international soccer tournament with four teams in each pool from A to H.
Each team will be drawn from a barrel and allocated a country competing in the World Cup who they will represent.
The team representing that country will be placed into the pool of the official FIFA World Cup draw.
The teams will play in qualifying rounds in their pool with the top two teams progressing to the final 16 – which will be a knockout format.
There are a maximum of six players per team with only three players on the field (including the goalie) at one time with unlimited inter-change. Participating females on the field of play will receive a bonus goal.
The games will be quick with six minute halves and 32 teams to contest the title.
The competition runs over five weeks with entrants only having to commit themselves to a maximum of two nights – that’s one pool game, all played on one night with finals also played over one night. All games will be played in the Galaxy Room at Club Forster.
To nominate download a team form from Club Forster’s website www.clubforster.com.au or pick one up from their reception. Entries close June 7.
The captain or representative of each team is expected to attend the official competition draw on June 11.
