19th May 2010

STUDENTS from James Nash State High School have been selected to represent Queensland in the Australian Futsal Championships to be held at the Gold Coast late in September.

At the March carnival in Brisbane, officials chose the James Nash state representatives: Quentin Chen, Ricky Dann, Lane Hoffmann, Scott Folland, Aden Johns, Tristan Maguire, Christina Aberley, Zoe Betts-Bailey, Angela Ball, Emma Taylor, Kiera Mieran, Lucie Santowski, Jacinta Hughes, Ash Burow, Sarah Baker, Maddi Smith and Chloe Williams.

Over 1300 competitors are expected at the Gold Coast event which attracts teams from Victorian, Tasmania and even New Zealand.

Players will participate in three days of competition and an awards ceremony at Dreamworld.

At the ceremony, the Australian team will be announced along with the All Star player awards.

Players hoping to repeat their selection in an Australian side will be Mitchell Chivers and Ricky Dann.

James Nash student Tristan Maguire is very excited about the trip, looking forward to the experience of such high level competition

Previous Queensland results at these competitions have been poor, a statistic which has inspired James Nash students to perform better than ever.

“I think our Queensland team should go will this year because it has new people and fresh talent,” James Nash player Zoe Betts-Bailey said.

The Queensland teams playing at the Australian championships consist of players in 13s, 14s, 15s, 16s and open age groups, and include both boys and girls teams.

Training will commence after the mid-year holidays and will involve training sessions every second weekend.
