Referees on the mark for futsal event

Tashkent: AFC and FIFA Futsal referees instructor Yasuhiro Matsuzaki is confident that referees at the AFC Futsal Championship 2010 will acquit themselves well in Uzbekistan.

Japanese Matsuzaki, who has officiated in this championship before, said: “I believe they are the best referees that AFC has produced and I am extremely confident that they will put what they have learned into practice.”

The referees had a seminar in February this year and also attended a two-day preparatory course prior to the tournament.

AFC Elite futsal referee Abdulrahman, from Bahrain, offered words of advice to his fellow colleagues.

“I officiated in the AFC Futsal Championship 2006, also held in Tashkent,” he said. “Compared to the old days, games now are much faster and tougher; teams are occupied with better technique and tactics. That is why it is very important for the referees to get their decisions right all the time – and in a split second.”

Most of the referees in the 11th edition of the AFC Futsal Championship are experienced officials, having taken charge of qualifiers and the 2008 Finals.

They are dedicated and committed to their mission and all of them passed the fitness test conducted on May 21 with ease.

The AFC Futsal Championship 2010 is held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan from May 23 to 30. Iran are the defending champions.
