English FA
Sheffield FC Futsal 8 – 1 FC Grimsby

Sheffield FC Futsal stormed to another comprehensive win with an 8 – 1 victory over FC Grimsby. The victory ensured that the title race will be decided in the last two games of the season with top of the table Manchester, Sheffield’s opponents in the penultimate game of the season.

In the early stages of the game both teams had chances to score before Sheffield’s Portuguese player Joel Rocha opened the deadlock on 6 minutes with a drilled shot into the corner of the Grimsby goal. Sheffield gained confidence from this goal and started to assert themselves, moving the ball with pace and precision. Spaniard Joan Agusti fired in Sheffield’s second with a venomous strike before Richard Ward lobbed the ball over a defenders head before volleying in a spectacular goal to make it 3-0. Grimsby had a brief spell of possession culminating in a neat finish by Roberts to make it 3-1, before Richard Moore struck the ball into the bottom corner of the net for Sheffield to give his team a 4-1 lead at half time.

Sheffield coasted to victory in the second half with Grimsby only creating a couple of notable chances. Frazer Thomas scored a tap in finish from an incisive pass by Agusti before Moore and Ward completed their doubles from well worked moves. Ollie O’Neill completed the scoring at Hillsborough Leisure Centre to make the score 8-1 to complete another emphatic victory.

Sheffield FC Futsal remain in 2nd place equal on 29 points with top of the table Manchester who won 7-3 against Oldham on Sunday. Manchester has a goal difference of one, keeping them in the ascendency, although the epic encounter between the two teams on Sunday 6th of June at Concord Leisure Centre (3.25pm) will ultimately prove decisive in the FA Futsal League North title race. Both teams have similarities coached by Brazilian’s and boasting current England Internationals. It is clear that both teams have UEFA Cup ambitions and look certain to qualify for the National play offs (top two teams qualify) in July but both teams immediate priority is to become league champions.
