Boro stars in provisional Team GB squadMikey Roberts, Jason Kilbride and Robbie Bettson have all made the provisional Great Britain squad after impressing at the trials and are all in with a chance of making the final squad for the World University Futsal Championship this summer in Serbia.
Michael Skubala has selected a provisional squad that will get together on several occasions over the coming months and the three Boro stars will have a chance to impress further before the final squad of 12 is chosen.
Boro have had a player in each of the World Championships since 2006. Ben Mortlock played in Poland in 2006, scoring two goals and Curt Holmes was Great Britain’s goalkeeper in Slovenia in 2008 and with three players in the provisional there is a good chance Boro will be represented in Serbia 2010.
Mikey Roberts was the top scorer for Teesside University in their BUCS triumph and also received the player of the tournament award. Robbie Bettson is Boro’s top goalscorer in the league with 15 goals this season, despite Boro not firing on all cylinders and Jason Kilbride has been instrumental throughout the season as captain.
Middlesbrough are back in action next weekend in the league as they host Oldham Athletic at Thornaby Pavilion. For more details of the fixture go to www.BoroFutsal.com.
