Vera BertolaAUSTRALIA’S Futsalroos don’t have the Socceroos’ high profile but they play with equal passion.
The national indoor team, featuring Campbelltown players Dean Lockhart, Simon Keith and Ian McAndrew, is currently in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, competing in the Asian Football Confederation Futsal Championships.
Keith plays for Sydney Maccabi FC and is a veteran national team player. Lockhart, 23, made his Australian debut in 2008.
The Aussies played three trials against Thailand before heading to Uzbekistan.
Lockhart travelled to Indonesia earlier this year, where Futsalroos earned qualification for the Asian Cup. He also represented NSW Thunder in February in the Asian club championships in Iran. Lockhart is supported by his employer Camden-based Stramit Pty Ltd.
* The Futsalroos lost 5-3 to hosts Uzbekistan in the quarter-finals on the weekend. Head coach Steven Knight said: “We played to the limits of our capabilities in Tashkent and reaching the quarter-finals is an excellent result for our team.”
