Football legend presents trophy at Carlsberg’s ‘Part of the Game’ futsal tournament

LEGENDARY ex-football player John Barnes presented England and Liverpool fans with a treat recently when he showed up the 1Utama futsal courts to present the winning trophy at Carlsberg’s "Part of the Game" futsal tournament.

And by a twist of fate, the winners turned out to be none other than the Liverpool Supporters Club Malaysia (LSCM) team.

Out of 16 teams battling it out that morning, LSCM, Adoimagazine and Tamil Nesan took home prizes of RM10,000, RM5000 and RM2500 respectively.

"We are here to start off the warm-up for the World Cup," said Carlsberg Brewery Malaysia Berhad managing director Soren Ravn.

After the futsal match the pitch once more exploded into life as Carlsberg’s Football Tour Extravaganza tour bus riders burst onto the field.

The tour bus team of percussionists, drummers, cheerleaders in British Royal Guard dress, and even English "bobbies on the beat" will be stopping at cities all over Malaysia to further fuel the football fever with trivia contests and consumer promotions.

"I think World Cup fever is definitely alight at the moment, you will find all the futsal courts packed every evening," said Selva, who was a guest member on one of the teams.

Carlsberg as the official sponsors for Team England, will be having giveaways for its exclusive, licensed collectibles emblazoned with the team crest and colours.

Fans will stand to win Team England merchandise when they purchase Carlsberg beer at any of the participating retail outlets and venues, and will also get the chance to win an all expenses paid trip to England with every purchase of a Carlsberg commemorative 6-pack and 24- pack.

Carlsberg will also be hosting 180 viewing parties with over 100 trade partners, each running unique promotions and activities during the 31-day event.
