University Futsal team progress to next stageFollowing a gripping ten weeks of action, the Manchester Futsal League finally brought the curtain down on its first season with a title deciding match between University of Manchester Futsal Club and Whitworth Park Sports Club.
In what was one of the games of the season, the University clinched the title in some style by defeating a strong Whitworth Park side 6-3. The Manchester students, who have this season competed for the first time in the BUCS regional competition, will now progress to The FA Futsal Cup Regional North Heat B on Sunday 4 July at Hillsborough Leisure Centre in Sheffield.
Here they will come up against the winners of the Liverpool FA Futsal League, the Cheshire Futsal League and three teams from The FA Futsal Conference North, with the winner progressing to the showpiece FA Futsal Cup Finals in Sheffield in September at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield.
Since taking over the development of the league, Manchester Futsal Club have made great strides in attracting the best Futsal teams from within Manchester and this first season has proved that there is a real passion for the game within the city.
Supported by Manchester City Council and Manchester FA, the league has provided a great showcase of Futsal and league organisers Manchester Futsal Club hope there is more to come.
“We’ve really enjoyed running the league and have been helped by some excellent teams that have taken part and of course some good referees that have experience in The FA National Leagues,” explained Manchester Futsal Club General Manager Simon Wright.
“We want to move the league forward and get more teams involved as we feel that we have a good product to attract more players into the sport that we are passionate about”
