Out with Iranian futsal coach, in with Dutch

TEHRAN - Just five days after claiming the title of the AFC Futsal Championship, Hossein Shams walked out on Iran’s futsal on Friday.

The Persian Kings led by Shams in Tashkent, Uzbekistan sealed their 10th title last week out of 11 tournaments held so far.

Dutch Coach Victor Hermans will reportedly replace him in Iran’s futsal team.

“I quit my job before the Iranian football officials fired me. I found out they were negotiating with another coach while we were still in Uzbekistan. Therefore, I decided to end my cooperation as Iran’s futsal coach,” Shams said.

Iran under Shams won five AFC Futsal Championships in 1999 (Malaysia), 2000 (Thailand), 2007 (Japan), 2008 (Thailand) and 2010 (Uzbekistan).

Iran also won the AFC Futsal Championship with Hermans in 2001
