Peter Daniels17 Jun, 2010SAM Cass and Matt Hensley will head to California in November as part of the Australian Under 19s Futsal team.
Cass, from Beechwood, and Hensley from Comboyne, continue this area's strong representation in the sport with Jack Lewis currently in Brazil with a junior representative team.
Cass and Hensley have to raised around $6500 each to participate on the tour and the latter has organised a bowls day and auction in July at the Comboyne Services Club.
That day will be held on Sunday July 25 commencing at 10am. Any donations of goods to be auctioned as part of the fundraiser would be most welcome. To arrange a pick-up contact Di Hensley on 6550-4199 or Kay White 6550-4242. Items can also be left at the Gazette office.
Cass is yet to organise his fundraiser.
The two were selected in the touring side during the national championships held in Sydney in January. Locally they continue to play in the Port Macquarie competition and also represent at various levels including state.
They were part of the Wauchope Warriors side that won the state title last year.
Cass has already travelled to China with a school representative team but this will be Hensley's first trip overseas for the sport.
Both said Futsal's attraction was its high skill level and the speed of play.
"There's also not much running involved," Cass added.
For Hensley his selection is somewhat a surprise given he has played - by his estimates - three games of soccer in his life.
"I just have a knack of picking up any sport I play pretty quickly," he said.
With Futsal exploding as a sport around the world, the two say they are looking forward to travelling to the USA for the competition.
They also specifically wanted to thank Rod and Sue Fisher and their respective parents for their support.
