Yellow AdvertiserSchool makes Futsal finalsA BRENTWOOD school showed their skills at the first ever Eastern Region Futsal Finals.
Shenfield High School, in Alexander Lane, earned their place at the National Finals at the Institute of Sport in Sheffield following their success over the weekend of July 3/4.
Futsal is a quick and dynamic sport played mostly indoors using hockey-sized goals and a size four ball with reduced bounce.
It focuses on skill and creativity rather than the typically full-blooded style in regular football matches.
The school’s under 14 boys and under 12 girls side showed off their futsal skills in the regional finals near Bedford on Saturday, June 12.
The former played Royal Docks and progressed with a 1-0 win, while the under 12 girls overcame Harris Middle School from Suffolk by the same scoreline.
Both will be joined by Eastlea Community School, from Canning Town, Newham, to represent Essex.
Lana Gillard, Essex County FA Education and Schools Development officer, said: “I was always confident our teams would be competitive and I’m really proud that we have three representing not only Essex but the Eastern Region at the National Finals.
“It’s a fantastic achievement for the players and teachers, especially as Futsal is still establishing itself in the County. It’s really pleasing that these schools have supported the development of Futsal in Essex and helped to raise its profile - they have been true ambassadors!”
