Trois-Rivières: Canadian Futsal champion
Trois-Rivières reached a new level, last March 16, when its Futsal team captured the title of “National Futsal club champion”.
FC Trois-Rivières defeated in fact Strathroy Benfica FC of Ontario in an ultimate match that crowned the Canadian champion. The meeting took place in Waterloo, at RIM Park Gymnasium, and ended in a 12-8 Trois-Rivières victory.
Jean-Louis Bessé led the way for the Quebec team with four goals. Nicolas Lesage and Yannick Goudreault also played a solid game, scoring three times each.
“Once again, Quebec proved that it is, as much with the provincial selection as with the club level, the one to beat in Futsal in Canada”, said Futsal Canada’s president, Christian Prévost. “Trois-Rivières deserved to win and it is great for Quebec to see that the city of Trois-Rivières is now on the map in Futsal.”
The Quebec formation also played a game, the night before, against the second place team of the Ontario championship, the St. Thomas Strikers. Trois-Rivières easily won the meeting 12-3.
