City Futsal team ousted

By Carlos Aruafu

In Auki, Malaita

Honiara futsal team lost hope after being ousted by Makira Ulawa futsal team 3-0 and Malaita futsal team 1-0 respectively on their first day of play on Saturday.

After losing two matches the Honiara City futsal team had all their hopes for continuing to next stage thrown away since there were only three teams in their pool Makira, Malaita and Honiara.

The Makira futsal team consists of mostly all province based players have proven to be strong contenders in the futsal tournament.

Makira had the upper hand of the match because their front line was strong penetrating through Honiara City’s defense line thus adding more pressure they continued with the same pace and played with more confidence which really disturb the formation and play pattern of the Honiara City team.

To make matters worse Malaita came along and took away the last hope for the second round defeating Honiara 1-0 in a very challenging but close match which Honiara City was intending to win to keep their hopes alive.

Honiara featured a number of top futsal players.

Makira and Malaita now have registered three points each and Honiara with zero point.

However other matches those were supposed to be played on Saturday was postponed for today because of the heavy rain.

Seven provincial futsal teams participated in the futsal competition and they are arranged in two pools, in pool A Makira, Malaita, and Honiara, in pool B Isabel, Central, Renbel, and Guadalcanal.

In the other matches Isabel and Renbel drew 1-1, now both of them have one point each.
