Bertam Ulu FC headed for South Africa

BERTAM ULU FC from Malacca is headed to South Africa for a chance to represent Malaysia in the Kia Champ Into the Arena global finals on July 1 after clinching top place in the Kia Futsal With Soul Tournament – defeating Last Minute FC, also from Malacca.

In addition to winning the championship, Bertam Ulu FC’s Jamaludin Alias was the top scorer of the tournament with six goals and named Player of the Tournament.

Jamaludin will be joined by teammates Mohd Ayub Alias, Riduwan Alias, Razman Abd Razak, Abu Haniffa Hasan and Mohammed Zahari Zubir.

Bertam Ulu FC has previously emerged champions of several local futsal competition including the Grand Final Karnival Futsal i-Metro 2010 held earlier this month.

A total of 13 teams will take part in the Kia Champ into the Arena global finals, comprising five teams from Africa and the Middle East, three from Asia and five from Europe.

Bertam Ulu FC will also be treated to a tour of Johannesburg and given tickets to watch the 2010 World Cup quarterfinal match on July 2 as well as RM10,000.

The finals of the Kia Futsal With Soul tournament, which ended in a final score of 3-2 in favour of Bertam Ulu FC, was held at the Dewan Sri Putra in Bukit Jalil on June 13 and broadcasted live on Astro Arena.

The final rounds of the tournament was launched by Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Ahmad Shabery Cheek on June 11 before a packed audience at the Dewan Sri Putra followed by friendly match between the Youth and Sports Ministry and Naza Kia.

At the event, Naza Kia gave futsal fans and the media a sneak preview of the multi-award Kia Soul – the official car of the 2010 World Cup – which will be launched in Malaysia in the near future.

Naza Kia also organised and participated in a corporate charity tournament during the final rounds of the Kia Futsal With Soul tournament.

It subsequently defeated Etiqa Insurance & Takaful to emerge champion, while third place went to Innity.
