Early next month sees some of the best young Futsal teams in the country converge in South Yorkshire for this year's FA Futsal Youth Festival which is always a lively event.
It starts on the Saturday, seeing U10 professional club academies and the U12s English Schools Festival before Sunday's action consists of the U14s and U16s Youth Festival.
This is the fourth Festival to have been staged by The FA, after growing the awareness and understanding of Futsal across England. A particularly important area that The FA has focused upon is developing the game within schools and young people. Subsequently, The Festival, supported by UMBRO, was established to provide a national showcase event that could inspire young people to take up and play Futsal on a regular-basis.
Entry to The Festival this year has been through Regional Festivals around the country, with most teams entering the regional stages after qualifying through local county competitions and festivals and those teams that win the Regional Festivals are awarded a place at the Festival.
The underlying aim of The FA National Youth Futsal Festival is to act as a catalyst to stimulate and support the ongoing youth development of Futsal across the country and whilst it may not necessarily lead to an increase or improvement in young Futsal players, it can play a pivotal role in encouraging schools, County FAs and other partners to establish sustainable Futsal development programmes that ensure Futsal is played by young people throughout the rest of the year.
However, putting the serious elements of the long-term development of Futsal to one-side – there is no doubting that The FA National Youth Futsal Festival remains an extremely fun and enjoyable day for everyone involved, particularly for the young players.
