1Youth 1Malaysia Futsal To Involve All Parliamentary Areas

July 08, 2010

The 1Youth 1Malaysia Futsal programme which involves 222 parliamentary constituencies nationwide will be implemented this month in a bid to inculcate sports culture among the people at the grassroots.

As such, Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Ahmad Shabery Cheek said each parliamentary constituency would be requested to organise futsal tournament for both men and women before Oct 15.

He said the government had also allocated RM10,000 for each constituency for the purpose.

The minister said the winners would represent their respective constituencies to the national-level championship scheduled for Dec 17-19 in Precinct 18, Putrajaya.

"Come December, we hope we will be able to bring together these young people to a gathering or a mini carnival in Putrajaya with the aim of strengthening the ties between Members of Parliament and youths from all over the country."

Ahmad Shabery said this at a luncheon jointly organised by the Youth and Sports Ministry and the Home Ministry at the Parliament House Thursday.

Also present was Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein.

Ahmad Shabery said the programme was also aimed at testing the effectiveness of futsal arenas built by the government nationwide.

He said these arenas were named "Gelanggang Futsal 1Malaysia" (1Malaysia Futsal Arena) to promote the 1Malaysia brand and to bring the multiracial people closer to the 1Malaysia concept.
