Click here for fixturesThis weekend sees the climax of The FA's domestic Futsal season as the six leading clubs in England go head-to-head over an intense and exciting weekend of Futsal at the Surrey Sports Park in Guildford.
Last year’s champions Helvecia are back and will face competition for their title from Southern rivals Spartans, Manchester FC and Sheffield FC from the North and Midland outfits Team United Birmingham and Chippenham over two days of matches.
The brand new multi-million pound sporting facilities at the University of Surrey will be an exquisite back-drop to the Finals, which is the culmination of a long, hard season that started in January for the 23 clubs in The FA National Futsal Leagues.
With the best two teams from each of the three divisions attending the Finals, only one of them can be crowned as champions.
The winning club not only gets the domestic bragging rights but also receives an attractive amount of prize money along with the opportunity to represent England in the UEFA Futsal Cup – the Champions League of Futsal!
Kicking off at 10.30am on Saturday morning with Sheffield against Chippenham in the opening game, the six teams have been separated into two groups of three and it will be the winners of these groups who meet in Sunday’s Final.
With entrance for spectators being free on both days, The FA’s National Manager for Small Sided Football Simon Walker is hoping that The Finals will prove popular.
“Futsal is rapidly growing in England, the pace, energy and skill create an exciting spectacle for both the teams involved and those watching,” he said.
“The FA National Futsal League Grand Finals is the pinnacle of the Futsal season – and will be an outstanding exhibition of top-level English Futsal.
"We are delighted to bring such a prestigious event to Surrey for the first-time and we are sure that it will encourage people in this area to get involved with Futsal.”
Peter Sturgess, Head Coach of the England Futsal team, will be another interested spectator at the Finals and he added: “One of the critical factors in the recent success and progress of the England National Futsal team has been the development of The FA National Futsal Leagues.
"The establishment of these leagues has given the opportunity for players to play regular Futsal of an ever increasing standard and intensity, this is crucial to the development of the game in this country and subsequently, the national side. The Grand Finals are a chance for players to play against the best Futsal players in the country and stake a claim for a place in the England team.”
Group A consists of Sheffield, Chippenham and Helvecia, whilst Group B is Spartans, Team United Birmingham and Manchester FC.
