Guam Pacific Daily NewsShipyard shuts down Espada F.C.By
Jan AquinoJuly 16, 2010Guam Shipyard shut out the Espada F.C. 5-0 in a fast-paced match in the GFA Calvo's Insurance Men's Futsal League at the Astumbo gym last night.
Both teams came out strong, but the more aggressive Shipyard team overwhelmed some of the younger Espada members. First to strike was Joshrik Fenwick just over a minute into the game.
Espada didn't give up, strongly penetrating Shipyard's defense and getting several shots at goal. But Shipyard keeper Joe Laanan was too agile, and stopped every attempt Espada took.
Dave Manibusan kept the ball rolling for Shipyard as he scored with 16:04 left in the first half.
As both teams started to show some fatigue, Shipyard's Chris Santos livened up the game with a scoring shot with just 3:15 left in the period. Santos then intercepted a pass by an Espada player and sent it into less than 30 seconds later.
The second half was a little slower-paced until Shipyard's Ian Mariano gave a quick pass to Carlo Unpingco that gave Espada the scare. But his shot was just a little off the mark. Scoring opportunities arose for Espada, but again, they couldn't finish. A quick shot by Yu Tanabe looked as if it soar into the net, but it flew just over the crossbar.
The game ended with Mariano finding the mark for Shipyard with over seven minutes left to play.
