Solomon Star NewsFutsal outclassed Honiara selectMonday, 19 July 2010Solomon Islands National Futsal team Kurukuru made a classic performance hammering the Honiara Select Futsal side 10-4 in their friendly match at the Multipurpose Hall on Saturday.
The Honiara Select side consist of former Kurukuru players also did make a entertaining performance in front of hundreds of spectators.
The match was the first organized friendly match since new recruits were added to the Kurukuru team.
Both sides equipped with skillful footwork started the match on a high note with fast and accurate passes from both sides.
Kurukuru had slightly more share of ball possession in the opening minutes.
The select side though made the first shot attempts was unlucky to convert any of them.
Kurukuru’s opener came from former golden boot awardees Micah Le’alafa who mercilessly slot the ball into the net to give way for the other nine to come.
Less than one minute later he scored his second goal this time from a left angle shot which left the keeper looking for the ball which has already gone passed him.
Kurukuru captain Elliot Ragomo converted their third from the left digging into the 90 degree corner.
Honiara Select hit back finding their opening goal by former Kurukuru Stanley Purana, then came their second and third by Francis Lafai.
Kurukuru quickened their game and continued to increase their score gap with goals from Micah, Ragomo and Makau.
Honiara Select then scored their fourth but stopped short after the final buzzer.
Kurukuru head coach Dickson Kadau and his assistant Jerry Sam praised both sides for their performance.
“Today we have witnessed that our Kurukuru boys have stepped up to another level in their performance.
“The boys really did made it today and to us as coaches we feel that we have achieved a lot as the boys have shown, we are really proud of them,” Mr Sam said.
He thanked the select side for their strong performance as well, it really boost the boys morale.
Jerry Sam told Star Sports that they will arrange two more friendly with the select side before leaving for Fiji for OFC Futsal Championship.
“We have trained real hard since the beginning of this year and now we are ready for theOFC championship in August.
“We respect every team and we don’t under estimate any team we will be there to show that have been preparing for this moment,” he said.
Kurukuru captain Ragomo also praised his boys: :We won because we played as a team not as individuals and now I really think we are ready for the upcoming championship”.
The Futsal Club Championship will begin on 4th Augustin Suva, Fiji.
