Sun Daily‘Ghanaians’ samba their way to title FUTSAL team Samba De Futsal ‘A’ Ghanaians won the Revive-Sports Planet Ultimate Champions League 2010 Supporters’ Club Cup futsal tournament after beating Karang Setra Nigerians 7-0 in the final at Sports Planet Ampang.
The champions faced little resistance from their opponents, who found themselves outplayed and outmanoeuvred for much of the match.
"We’re proud of our win," said Samba De Futsal ‘A’ team manager Razif Ramli, who formed his team seven months ago.
"We’ve been training hard for this, and our strategy to focus on team formation paid off handsomely."
The team has won numerous tournaments since its inception.
Samba De Futsal ‘A’ Ghanaians took home RM1,500 and Revive drinks for their win, and Karang Setra Nigerians won RM800 and Revive drinks. Adigun Italians, and A7 United Japanese won RM400 and RM200, respectively, for finishing third and fourth.
Twenty-four took part in the event, with the four favourite teams making it to the semifinals. Samba De Futsal ‘A’ beat Adigun
2-0, and Karang Setra beat A7 United 3-0 to advance to the finals.
In conjunction with the football fever, organisers Sports Planet Sdn Bhd (Sports Planet) and Permanis Sdn Bhd (Permanis) added excitement to the tournament, now in its third year, by classifying the event as the National Team Supporters’ Club Cup.
A supporter of the tournament since its inception, Permanis is also Sports Planet’s official beverage partner, and Revive Isotonic is the tournament’s title sponsor.
"We are pleased with the response to our Supporters’ Club Cup as it shows there is tremendous interest in futsal," Sports Planet executive director Wong Horr Wai said.
