The AFC.comElaborate plans for futsal parkMonday, 19 July 2010Chengdu Football Association General Secretary Gu Jianming has made elaborate plans once the Chengdu Futsal Park is thrown open to public towards the end of this year.
The ground-breaking ceremony of the stunning park will take place at the hands of AFC President Mohamed Bin Hammam, who witnessed the devastation of Chengdu after the earthquake in 2008.
AFC and its partners donated more than half a million dollars to the Chengdu FA to revive city’s football activities.
“We have planned to provide free training to primary and middle school students regularly,” Gu told the-afc.com ahead of Wednesday’s ceremony.
“The total cost of the project is around 4.8 million dollars and we will collect the remaining amount from the public.
“We are aiming to make this park the best integrated futsal parks in China and leave a shining landmark in the history of Chinese football.”
The Chengdu FA is also planning to set up a passageway in the park to present the history of football.

The AFC.comBin Hammam reaffirms connection with ChengduMonday, 19 July 2010Kuala Lumpur: AFC President Mohamed Bin Hammam will have good reason to be pleased when he visits Chengdu on July 21 for the ground-breaking ceremony of the Chengdu FA Futsal Park.
This south-western Chinese city is one of the best standard-bearers of Bin Hammam's brain-child Vision Asia, embracing the revolutionary grassroots programme with gusto, and setting new benchmarks with their enthusiasm and devotion to popularising the game.
In a nutshell, the story of Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan province, is one of trust in its abilities to overcome the odds with courage.
Wednesday’s groundbreaking ceremony will mark yet another chapter which will see the city, its people, and its football continuing their steady rehabiliation after the devastating earthquake in Sichuan in 2008, which killed thousands and left a trail of disaster.
Bin Hammam, who was visiting Chengdu at that time, personally witnessed the havoc wreaked by the tumbler and the following year saw AFC and its partners donate more than half a million dollars to the Chengdu FA to revive the city's football activities in the post-quake aftermath as part of Vision China Project Chengdu.
The funds went to the building of the futsal park, whose groundbreaking ceremony takes place at the hands of the AFC chief.
The Chengdu FA entered into an agreement with the Chengdu Hi-Tech Zone Government for a 20-year lease on 26,680 square metres of land.
A stunning design for the Park has been revealed with a horseshoe-shaped pavilion leading out to 12 futsal pitches, 10 of them using artificial turfs. The building will also have a gym, restaurant, conference rooms and other facilities.
“I am impressed with the strikingly stunning design and innovative concept of the Park,” Bin Hammam said in a letter last year to the Chengdu FA. “It would give me great pleasure to return to Chengdu next spring, in the Year of the Tiger, to inaugurate the Chengdu FA Futsal Park.”
And that takes place on Wednesday.
