Seven in for OFC Futsal champ

Monday, 19 July 2010

A total of seven countries have been confirmed to participate in the 2010 Oceania Football Confederation Futsal Championship which will be held at Suva's Vodafone Arena from August 8-14.

Hosts Fiji, defending champion Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, New Caledonia, New Zealand, Tuvalu and Tahiti will be out to top the Oceania region.

The championship will be played on a round robin league system to determine the overall winner. In the past years a knock out stage was played following the round robin competition to determine the winner.

Fiji Football Association Futsal Commission which is headed by Fiji FA Vice President Mr. Anil Sharma has finalized their final 20 member squad for the championship.

The squad will march in for a five week camp from 12 July- 14 August. Sharma says they have mapped out their plans.

“Development Officer and former national rep Hussein Sahib will head the panel of coaches which will be in charge of the side. Tama Vosuqa and James Muir are also in the panel to assist Hussein.

“This 20 member squad is expected in camp on the 12th of July for a five week camp. The 20 member will be reduced to 15 after two weeks of camp. 12 players will later be selected for the OFC Championship.

“This is a chance to represent the country and I encourage all the players who have been named in the squad to turn up at the camp,” Sharma said.
