Carlos AruafuFutsalplanet Note: during the 2008 World Cup and in other competitions, the player was indicated as Jack WetneyWednesday, 21 July 2010NATIONAL Kurukuru striker Jack Whitney has been drafted back into the final squad after reports earlier in the week that he had been omitted after signing with Amical FC of Vanuatu.
Head Coach Dickson Kadau confirmed to Star Sport yesterday that Whitney have decided to return to help the Kurukuru upon a request by the Kurukuru management.
Despite the absence of Whitney in last Saturday’s friendly with the Honiara select side Kadau was convinced that Whitney would return and rejoin the team.
“Jack has been confirmed to return and join the team and it is good news”, Coach Kadau said.
Whitney who left the country last weekend to Vanuatu have been one of the latest signings by Amical FC for the O’ League season which kicks off in October this year.
“Yes, Whitney left for Vanuatu a few days before our friendly with the select side to sign with Vanuatu’s O’league rep Amical FC for the O’league playoff and to meet up with an agent from an Australian club who also had interest in Whitney, but the Kurukuru boys needs him so I am putting him back in the team,” Kadau told Star Sport.
Kadau said that this week he made a phone call to the Amical FC management and discussed the need to release Whitney back into the Kurukuru team for the OFC in Fiji next month.
“The Amical FC management have released him upon request for national duties and we are pleased to have him back”, the Solomon Islands national futsal coach said.
“Whitney is an instrumental player in the team and we need him to be with boys for the upcoming Oceania futsal championship in Fiji early next month”, Kadau continued.
Whitney arrived back from Vanuatu yesterday and is expected to continue his training with the national side as they prepare to visit Fiji next month.
