Carlos AruafuFriday, 23 July 2010KURUKURU management have axed star forward Moffat Sikwa’ae just two weeks before the kick off of the OFC Futsal Championships in Suva, Fiji.
Coach Dickson Kadau confirmed to star sport that Sikwa’ae was axed from the Kurukuru squad for disciplinary reasons.
Kadau said that Sikwa’ae has stepped beyond some of the team’s regulations and he had to be removed from the team.
Sikwa’ae a few weeks ago reportedly asked for a two days rest off training from the Kurukuru management which he was granted.
The star forward decided to take the opportunity to travel down to Savo to play in the Kemakeza Cup.
Upon arrival after the two days, he was warned that if he attempted to do the same thing again he would be disciplined.
Kadau said Sikwa’ae took no notice of the warning and left the same night to Savo for the finals.
Sikwa’ae who just recently returned from Savo received his suspension notice from the Kurukuru management Wednesday this week for an indefinite period.
“We had to remove him from the team because we don’t accept such behavior from our players”, the coach said.
However, Kadau said Sikwa’ae still has a chance to retain his place in the squad when Kurukuru return from Fiji next month.
“He has to prove that he won’t do it again but there are still possibilities if he wants to return and join us”, Coach Kadau said.
Meanwhile, Kurukuru captain Elliot Ragomo said Sikwa’ae’s axing from the final squad was a decision the coach had to make.
Ragomo said they will miss the star forward but they have to focus and adjust in preparation for the OFC championships which kick off in two weeks time.
Sikwa’ae has been replaced by David Lafai who was recalled to join the team for the OFC tournament.
Kurukuru in the meantime will play their second friendly against the Honiara select side tomorrow at 3pm.
