Nine MAs for AFC Futsal Club C'ship

Kuala Lumpur: Nine eligible Member Associations have expressed their interest to participate in the second edition of the AFC Futsal Club Championship in 2011.

Iran, Qatar, Japan, Thailand, Lebanon, China, Uzbekistan, Iraq and Indonesia have all agreed to participate.

A Member Association is deemed eligible as long as it has an active futsal committee and an active nationwide home and away futsal league.

As per the decision of the AFC Futsal Committee at its recent meeting on May 30, 2010, the top three placed countries in the previous edition of the AFC Futsal Club Championship - Iran, Qatar and Japan, plus the host country of the Finals in 2011, will be given a direct entry into the tournament proper.

If any of the top three countries is selected as hosts, the fourth placed team from AFC Futsal Club Championship 2010 will be the replacement.

As Iran and Qatar are bidding to be the host for the Finals, Thailand will get utomatic bye to the Final Round.

Selection format for the the remaining four teams for the eight-team Finals is yet to be decided.

In the Finals, eight teams will be divided into two groups of four and top teams from each group will advance to the semi-finals.

The draw for the qualification round will be held during the second week of December 2010.
