Kuam NewsQuality outlasts Shipyard for futsal crownAug 02, 2010by
Dave DelgadoGuam - The GFA 2010 Calvo's Insurance Men's Futsal League Championship title was up for grabs last night at the Astumbo Gym. Quality Distributors and Guam Shipyard met up for the 2nd time this year with Shipyard taking the first meeting. Last night was a different story though as Quality came out with 2 early goals to get things started.
Quality would add to their lead a couple of minutes later when Alan Jamison kicked in a score past Shipyards goalkeeper. Shipyards David Manibusan scored his team's first goal off an inbound that took a lucky bounce. Ian Mariano scored Shipyards last goal, Mariano was also the Silver Shoe Award Winner with 12 goals during the regular season. Quality won 8-2 for this year's title.
"We had a great season," said Quality's Matt Welton. "All the players really worked together today and it was a hard match. Shipyard is always a tough opponent, they came out real hard but we stuck with our plan and played real good defense and the goals came naturally after that. Defense has been our strategy all season long and it paid off tonight. All the players on the team we worked well together and I think anytime we countered against them it was an opportunity on goal. It was a great season, we lost to Shipyard in the regular season so it was great to beat them in the finals. It's a big rivalry but I'm glad we came out on top."
