Fiji TimesGhost laid to restby
Eliki DrugunalevuTuesday, August 10, 2010The Fiji Futsal side buried the ghost of the past on Sunday night at the Vodafone Arena as it overcame a determined Tahiti side 2-0.
The two sides last met in 2008 where the Tahiti side dominated every aspect of the game and defeated Fiji 9-0.
But on Sunday night it was a different story as the Fiji side came into the game with one thing in mind ù to win.
Head coach Hussein Sahib said his boys played a good game and lived up to expectations.
"The boys played well last night (Sunday night) even though we missed a few goals scoring opportunities, I was happy with the way that they played," Sahib said.
"We lost to Tahiti in 2008 and it was 9-0 but last night (Sunday night) it was a big improvement and I'm really happy with their performance."
Sahib said heading into the game their emphasis was on tightening their defence and to be more patient when in possession.
"We told the boys before the game that we need to more patient when we have the ball and to tighten up our defence and the boys did just that," Sahib said.
"We could have scored more goals since we had plenty of goal-scoring opportunities but I'm happy with what we achieved."
Sahib said that their ball movement was much better after successful back-to-back wins in their warm-up games last week over a USP Solomon selection side.
Fiji was on bye yesterday and its next match will be against Tuvalu today.
