Fiji TimesCoach wants to target youthsby
Eliki DrugunalevuTuesday, August 10, 2010There should be more involvement of the younger generation if Futsal is to improve in the country.
This was the call by Fiji Futsal side coach Hussein Sahib after his side defeated Tahiti 2-0 on Sunday night at the Vodafone Arena.
Sahab said the technique of playing Futsal was not something that could be developed over night.
"We need to see more of the younger generation being involved with Futsal because it is a very good and interesting sport," Sahab said.
"Development should start from primary school and then move on to the secondary level because we cannot change the technique, skills and shooting in a short period of time."
"We need the involvement of the younger generation if the sport is to develop in the country," he said.
Sahib also said he would love to see more local support for the side for the rest of the tournament, especially the younger generation.
In their warm-up match last Thursday, a huge crowd turned up but to cheer on the USP Solomon selection side.
"It would we really good if there was good crowd support especially from the younger generation because it will help lift the standard of the game," Sahib said.
Sahab said the boys heeded his message against Tahiti which was to be patient and score first.
"Futsal is a different game and if we concede a goal than it would be really hard to chase that score so I told the boys to score first and keep on scoring and keep the opposition chasing," Sahib said.
Sahib is hopeful of more goals against Tuvalu today after missed opportunities in the game against Tahiti on Sunday.
